say good bye to 4th grade!

true is saying farewell to fourth grade (one of his most successful grades yet!).  next year is his last in elementary school (gulp), and he's pretty happy about it, although he is already missing mr.becker, the fabulous teaching assistant.
mr. becker will be teaching in bend, oregon next year...or will he?!  my mischievous almost-a-fifth-grader son asked mr becker to sign a blank piece of paper.  happy to provide his autograph, mr. becker was flattered.  true took the signature and wrote a statement above it, essentially committing becker to foregoing his bend job and staying at greenwood.  it was adorable and true plans to try and hold becker to it.

happy half birthday

we love celebrating luca's half birthday, which falls appropriately on summer solstice.  this kid is an extension of the sun- warm, bright, exuberant, happy, the center of great joy.   his spirit enlivens all of us and we are so lucky to have this soul in our family.  luca, you are light.

adventures in chelan

big adventures in chelan for the weekend!  we had a 60 mile mountain bike race planned...and plans changed with aaron's injury.  instead of racing, aaron became the manny... he had 7 kids to watch.  the kids were in heaven- camping in a big open meadow, free from traffic and or any rules-  they were wild. it's what childhood memories are made of, and we are happy to provide the platform.
we rode mountain bikes. watched outdoor movies, ate bad food, and bonus, hit the water slides on the way home.

daily dose

just a little cuteness to brighten your day.   this instant photo was taken at my 30th class reunion-  i had the cutest date and the best dancer. i like that aaron saved this photo and keeps it at work with him.

broken bear

aaron had a little mountain bike crash at the unspectacular as it were.  somebody went down in front of him at the start, and with nowhere to go, aaron went down too.  the other guy was pretty much unscathed, but aaron...oh aaron....his shoulder was out of joint.  it was so obvious, and so unreal looking.  fortunately, the infamous dan norton was on the scene and together with aaron, they popped that shoulder back in.  because aaron was still in a lot of pain, we took him to the ER.  ER is no place for kids, but the boys were awesome and of course, quite concerned.  luca, oh luca, was just so sad.
trail parking lot makeshift sling did the job.

smiling, wincing at the pain, with a great mini-nurse to help

the ER doc thought the x-ray was unclear, but we've just found out that aaron has a broken glenoid.  as i post, we are waiting to hear if he needs surgery, or if he's just gonna be off the bike for a long time.  either way, it's not awesome!
