sunday exercise

we are gearing up for a busy summer season of running, biking, soccer and swimming.  as such, we decided we should work on our stamina, endurance and general fitness.  if you have ever tried to do everything that a 9 and 6 year old can do in a few hours, i'm sure you found yourself very tired.  if you did not, then congratulations, you are fast, fit and agile.
our day started with a run/sprint session around greenlake.  luca rode his bike, and true and i alternated a slow job with some sprints.  just to make it fun, we did high knees, butt kicks, running backwards.  thrown in our 3 mile trek, we stopped to do pull ups, push ups, sit ups and planks...twice.
i'm amazed that true can almost do a pull up! i just barely support his back and away he pulls. luca is sit up machine. and sit ups are so much more fun with you get a kiss at the top of your rep.
after we made it around the lake, we played frisbee, followed by an hour of soccer. this is the sport that gets me every time.  i feel like we have been playing for hours, only to look at the clock and see ten minutes has ticked by.  really!  i'm impressed with the agility and endurance my two kids have....and my legs are sore enough to prove that i just don't have it.  it's kinda embarrassing to have your kid just beat you into submission and i'll admit, i might of used a cuss word or ten.
when i just couldn't take any more sprints and kicks, true insisted we all calm down with a meditation session (thanks aunt gayle for teaching them that!).   and both kids suggested i work on anger management because, as luca says, the fun is in the game, not the win. uh huh.
coming in on two whole minutes of planking!

true kept going, 2 minutes, 9 seconds.

syttende mai

We inadvertently celebrated the signing of the Norwegian constitution in Ballard (highest density of Norwegian's on the West Coast!).  The kids fit in with their light hair and general creamy white skin... but they made some art to make sure that everybody in Bastille knew their heritage.

mother's day weekend

my mother's day was actually a three day celebration!  how awesome is that?!
first up... THE CROWN on friday!  i wore it on my helmet to work, all day at work, on my helmet home, and then to a party later that night. i felt like a queen, and the luckiest mom ever.

the friday night dinner party at jess and jim's with maggie and ryan too, was more about the adults.  my stomach hurt from so much laughing and i was reminded how lucky i am to have such awesome friends who also have awesome kids.

the boys had a sleep over at team thomson...below, graham and luca took a nap post shower.
aaron and i woke up at the crack of dawn to load our mountain bikes and pick up some teammates for a quick ride at Grand Ridge.  what a great way to start the day! bikes and beers by noon!
in the meantime, true and luca went to school of rock with graham to bang on some drums. then off to ballard pool for swim time.  they came home just on time for us to take off to see betsy stonich's theater debut in The Little Mermaid.  besty was a super cute newt!  the boys loved seeing the play and i was certainly impressed with the talent at that show! below the boys are stoked to see each other and ham it up for the camera.
we finished the evening with a dinner al fresco at the stonich home, and another sleep over for the boys....which meant sleeping in on mother's day!  when i picked up the boys sunday morning, they were reluctant to leave, but then both quickly fell asleep...clearly they were pooped.  i rocked luca in my arms (it was mother's day after all), and i couldn't help but think it might be the last time i get to do so...he's so big already and we barely fit into the rocking chair.  i may have shed a tear while feeling the beat of luca's heart against mine...
when the boys woke up, the entire family headed for a soccer game at green lake....luca and dad versus true and mom.  poor true tried his hardest, and he scored the most goals for team mom, but in the end, team dad was just too hard to beat.
we finished up the evening with dinner on the patio at cornuto, and things were pretty awesome.

yes true was with us, but he often buries his nose in a book and we don't hear from him until the food arrives

i asked luca how he got to be so handsome and he replied, "well, you mom.  because you are so pretty".
tears. again.

side bite

this tooth simply must come out!  it's sideways!  but luca does not want us to take it out. he wants it to fall out on its own. ok......can't be long now!

i'm a mom

luca made me a gorgeous crown to wear for mother's day....but asked that i wear it to work.  it was easy to comply but it's hard to keep a straight face in meetings....
aaron taped the crown to my helmet for my ride to work.

here i am working...
and here is my picture on the CSE news blog!

these are a few of my favorite things

my office door bulletin board is awash in erbeck history. pictures, art, objects.  it would be hard for me to part with any of these "things" i cram more items in, each one so precious to me that i can't bear to remove anything.  i guess i'll need to add a second bulletin board soon.

left to right, top to bottom.
aaron and true skateboarding,  a bunch of kids at a holiday party, hank (my boss) and me, luca wayne, true and me, "beehive" by luca, a frog (given to me by true, to keep me from getting lonely at work), postcard of one of my fave local artists, a bunch of kids at a holiday party, origami princess leia (by true), butterfly by luca (faded and dusty, but my first mother's day present from him), may day flowers (by luca).

in tooth news

luca bravely let his dad pull out his loose tooth!  that little tooth has been hanging on for quite sometime and luca was happy to say see ya!  other methods tested-  tooth tied to a remote control helicopter (no luck).  tooth tied to a slingshot plane (no luck).   pretty impressive that this kid even considered these tricks-  i had to look away!
