At True's request,  I volunteered for Greenwood Elementary's 2013 Field Day.  Controlled chaos, at best, and whole lotta kid fun.  True and his field day partner were pretty easy to spot, you know, a couple of "towheads".  one mom laughed and said that she struggles to remember what her kids wore for the day, while trying to spot them on the playground, but she could always find True.  And then we both wondered where the term "towhead" came from...
this is what Webster says:
: a head of hair resembling tow especially in being flaxen or tousled; also : a person having such a head of hair
hmm. that doesn't tell me much.  but the Urban Dictionary had some good info:

tow headed is literally "flaxen haired". This meaning of tow comes from Middle Low German touw (which means "flax, hemp fiber"). This probably went back to the prehistoric Germanic base *tow-, *taw "make, prepare" (source also of English tool), in the sense "make yarn from wool; spin".
he's a real tow head

luca's spring performance

luca's preschool had an end of year potluck last night (by the way, the food was outstanding!).  the kids have been working pretty hard on a few songs for us, and as usual, i cried.  i just love watching my youngest,  ever the enthusiastic child, singing his little heart out.  please click the link below.

rapha weekend

sometimes, you just gotta get away.  rapha's art show in portland seemed like the perfect excuse to find some place for the kids to stay, while we escaped for a few days.  we stayed with our besties, the keelings, the boys stayed with miss mary and then enzo.

bikes are art!

i feel like i am married to a celebrity
rapha hq..simple, elegant, gorgeous.

after the portland show and ride, aaron was off of for one of the infamous rapha trips, while i hung out with heather, greg, emmett, georgia, magnolia.  i love those kids (the parents too)!
on my way home, i stopped off  in toutle, washington, to ride up to johnson ridge obeservatory.  this, is an 80 mile ride, 8k of climbing.  fortunately, i convinced my friends peter and chris to endure the suffering with me.   we had a perfect day and i managed quite a sunburn.
not a steep climb, but long!

peter at the top!

you may wonder what the boys were doing....

they were having a really good time!  such a good time that they were understandably a little sad when i showed up at gabe, tina, ane enzo's to bring them home.

it's the end of the spring soccer season...and we will miss coach tyler a whole bunch!  he really helped to bring true to the next level.  we are amazed at not only true's skill, but his absolute love for the sport.  we are taking summer off, but we'll be back in the fall.

camp chelan (aka, true's big bday party)

true wanted to go camping for his off we went to lake chelan, where we were guaranteed some sunshine and warm temps!  we had never camped there before, it was all new to us.  we packed up the car with 4 boys (5, if you count aaron, and i do), and everything we would need for a weekend of fun.  bikes, shovels, tents, soccer ball, lots and lots and lots of food (unbelievably, not nearly enough).  we did not have an inch to spare- but we were all still very comfortable.  we arrived just before 10pm and were slightly horrified by the hoards of people in the campground.  aaron audibly groaned.  we drove around searching for our site and much to our surprise, it turned out to be the best one!  the site was shaded, semi-private and big bonus.. right on the river.  the sound of the water drowned out the noise of every generator and boom box.  it was sweet and peaceful (we also realized in the morning that we were in the wrong site...we had to move to a not as great of a site. BUT, as luck would have it, the people that reserved the better site did not show and i insisted politely that we move back to the perfect site.  as they say, location! location! location!).  aaron set the tents up in no time and we stuffed the kids into their sleeping bags, but their excitement prevailed and i heard them well past 11:00pm.
despite the late night shenanigans, the kids were up at 7am and ready for adventure by 8am.

as you can tell, true was ultra prepared.  he had his backpack full of safety equipment (ropes, flashlights, carabiners,  survival books). who wouldn't want to adventure with this kid?!

the first stop on our hike

luca was first to remove his shirt
luca was quick to make a new friend

trying to make up for multiple camp site relocation efforts
sunset on chelan is gorgeous

we took our new friend maggie to go get ice cream with us

cocktails by the fire

so much fun is exhausting!

super exhausting

this is what adventure looks like
