and my heart melted....

Luca has been caught with small smiles in the past week...but they still didn't seem like the "real" thing. Today all of that has changed. Luca just caught me as I glanced at him, he locked onto my eyes with his and smiled as big as his cute little mouth could. I jumped back, it shocked him, and he had a look like "oh no, I did something wrong!" I immediately smiled back and laughed and the kid smiled again! And again!

Ok Luca, you win. My heart is yours. I will never silently curse during your 4:00a.m. feeding again. I'm yours forever.

Green Bay comes to Seattle

The Erbeck grandparents made a trip to Seattle to entertain their first grandson, True, and take a peak at their second, Luca. True and the Green Bay Erbecks toured the zoo, the aquarium, the Ballard Community Center, Zeek's Pizza, Pies-n-Pints, PCC...just to name a few. We loved to have them here and True really appreciated the extra attention. If only we all lived a little closer to each other!

Luca's 2 week checkup

Luca went to the doctor a few days ago for a two week check up. Bad news is that he has an upper respiratory infection. Although minor, it is cause for having to plunge out the little guy's nose 3-4 times a day. He deals with it with relative composure. ***note to newborn mothers (as if you didn't already know) insist that anybody who handles your baby wash their hands first.

Now for the great news- Luca has gained over a pound and a half since birth. This, in just 2.5 short weeks. The doctor called him a rockstar eater...I'm not sure I'd call him a rockstar, since I'm the one who has him attached to me for what seems like endless hours a day (sorry for that visual). While I may be tired, and I may complain, I am very happy that Luca is so easily fed. I know that we'll settle into a good rhythm soon. And I'm looking forward to the day.

Luca is also to the point now where he can where all the newborn clothing that his friend Emmett let him borrow. Thanks Heather!

True is still happy about having a little brother. He kisses and hugs him and says, "Baby, I loves you". It will be great to watch them laugh and play and tackle each other. I hope they are best friends.

and in other news.....

last night, after dinner, aaron asked me if i wanted any "i-c-e c-r-e-a-m". true didn't waste one second to yell, "i do daddy! i want some ice cream!". last time i checked, true was only 2.5 yrs and not yet spelling words. the kid is too smart for his own good! he's quite the big brother, always more than happy to share whatever it is that he has with the baby, like his dirty shovel.

and for the luca update.... i had to adjust the car seat straps today to accommodate his rapidly growing little body. i was blown away. he actually fits into some of his clothing now and his spindly little legs are looking meatier. along with his cute growing little body are his not-so-cute rapidly growing lungs. yes folks, we have a screamer. luca was only kidding that first week and half when he was so easy and quiet and sweet. at least he usually only screams once a day at you know...3:30am. it's not so easy on his dad who is back at work and trying to be productive, but we do realize that this is just one phase in the many we will experience in the next 18 years. oh little luca has us right where he wants us. he could do anything and we'd still be completely in love and absolutely smitten.

aaron took a non-chaotic moment to take true and get out of the house for some much needed exercise. this was true's first visit to the new skate park the city built at woodland park. according to aaron, true had a blast and was quite good at balancing on the skateboard. it looks like they had a fantastic time! i wish i could have been there...but luca and i are still working on a proper feeding schedule. i'm finding it hard to leave the couch!
